Telangana vehicle registration state code to change from 'TS' to 'TG'
The government of Telangana has made a decision to change the state's vehicle registration code from 'TS' (Telangana State) to 'TG' in a cabinet meeting. It will be implemented on all vehicle registration plates in the state. Speaking on the occasion, A Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana said the previous government chose 'TS' as per its whim, and no other state has a 'state' in its code.
On Sunday, the decision was taken to carry out a poll promise made by the Chief Minister during the assembly election campaign. D Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, E&C, Industry and Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, government of Telangana, briefed the media on the decisions made by the Cabinet.
The previous ruling party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had taken a decision to utilise "TS" as the state code abbreviation for Telangana. This came in 2014 when Telangana was separated from Andhra Pradesh. BRS was earlier recognised as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
That said, each Indian state uses the abbreviation of two letters derived from its name as vehicle registration number prefix, such as AP for Andhra Pradesh, BR for Bihar, and MH for Maharashtra.
