Spec comparison: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios vs Maruti Suzuki Swift

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched the 2023 Grand i10 Nios facelift in India with prices starting at Rs 5.68 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). This facelift brings a fresh design, new features, and an updated engine to the hatchback. Not to mention, it is also available in the CNG version. The Grand i10 Nios is one of the most crucial models in the Hyundai lineup and contributes about 20 per cent to its overall sales. The carmaker also sold over one lakh units of the Grand i10 Nios last year. Here is a detailed spec comparison between the newly launched Grand i10 Nios facelift and Maruti's Swift.

Powering the Swift CNG is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with idle engine start/stop. This motor produces 90PS and 113Nm, whereas it makes 77.5PS and 98.5Nm of torque in the CNG mode. While the petrol-only model can be mated to a five-speed manual or automatic transmission, the CNG-powered model is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.

On the other hand, the 2023 Grand i10 Nios facelift is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine making 83PS and 114Nm of torque. It is to be noted that Hyundai has updated this engine to meet new RDE norms. Moreover, it supports E20-grade fuel. It comes mated to a five-speed manual or AMT transmission. Meanwhile, the motor in CNG guise delivers 69PS and 95.2Nm of torque and is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Swift petrol manual provides a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.38kmpl, while the petrol AMT version returns a mileage of 22.56kmpl. Notably, the CNG model gives out a fuel economy of 30.90km/kg. On the other hand, the Grand i10 Nios facelift has a claimed mileage of 20.7kmpl and 20.1kmpl for manual and AMT transmissions, respectively. The CNG-powered model can return a fuel efficiency of 27.3km/kg.

Maruti has equipped the Swift with various features, such as idle engine start/stop, electronic stability control, hill start assist, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, fog lamps, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, analogue instrument cluster with colour MID, cruise control, auto-folding ORVM, auto temperature control, a rearview camera with parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS, EBD, and connected car features via Suzuki Connect.

The 2023 Grand i10 Nios facelift comes loaded with features, namely a wireless charging pad, footwell lights, USB Type-C ports, an updated instrument cluster, a few additional switches on the steering, hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic stability control, cruise control, ISOFIX anchors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and vehicle stability management. Hyundai offers four airbags as standard in all variants. Plus, there is an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags, auto headlamps, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

Maruti Suzuki's Swift is 3,845mm long, 1,735mm wide, and 1,530mm tall. Its wheelbase stands at 2,450mm. Whereas, the South Korean hatchback measures 3,815mm in length, 1,680mm in width, and 1,520mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,450mm.

Overall, the new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios facelift offers a bunch of features, especially four airbags, across all variants but misses out on connected car technology. When it comes to performance and fuel consumption, the Maruti Suzuki Swift delivers 7PS and 8.5PS more power in petrol and CNG modes, respectively. Not to mention, it also provides better-claimed fuel economy than the Grand i10 Nios facelift. The prices of Swift range between Rs 5.92 lakh and Rs 8.85 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Grand i10 Nios facelift's prices start at Rs 5.68 (ex-showroom), however, that is introductory.
