Mercedes Benz India has officially launched the EQE SUV at an introductory price of Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom). The EQE 500 is Mercedes' third electric vehicle in India, following the EQB SUV and the EQS sedan. The fully electric vehicle is available in a single top-spec 500 4Matic trim level.

Mercedes EQE SUV: Design And Dimensions

The Mercedes EQE SUV follows the EQS, EQE, and EQS SUVs on the brand's EVA (electric vehicle architecture) platform. Interestingly, the EQE SUV is somewhat less in size than its sedan counterpart, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, overall length of 4,863, width of 1,940 mm, and height of 1,686 mm.

The EQE SUV's design characteristics are similar to those of earlier EQ models, such as the rounded surfaces and coupe-like shape, which will make the car look sleeker. The black panel grille that houses the LED light strip has a star-like design on the front.

The electric SUV has a sleek look from the side, with flush-fitting door handles and an aerodynamic alloy wheel design that can be as large as 21 inches. A linked LED light strip appears posh and sophisticated on the rear.

Mercedes EQE SUV: Powertrain and Charging

Internationally, the EQE SUV is available with a variety of powertrain options, but all are powered by a 90.6kWh battery pack. The top-spec 500 4MATIC will be the only one made available in India, with 408PS and a maximum torque of 858 Nm.

On the WLTP cycle, the EQE SUV has a range of 550km and Merc claims a 0 to 100 kmph sprint under 5 seconds. The powerplant enables DC fast charging, and a 170kW charger can recharge the batteries from 10-80 percent in 32 minutes. Mercedes-Benz warranties the EQE SUV's battery pack for ten years or 2.5 lakh kilometres, and it only has to be serviced every two years.

Mercedes EQE SUV: Interior and Features

The EQE 500 SUV comes standard with the brand's 56-inch 'Hyperscreen' dashboard, which features three different displays extending across its width. The front passenger gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, similar to the arrangement featured in the EQS sedan.

The streamlined central air vents are located above the screen, while the traditional turbine-inspired vents cover the dashboard's flanks. A Burmester sound system, a leather-free interior, and an assortment of creature amenities like as power-adjustable seats, a four-zone temperature control system, and a panoramic sunroof are all available.

In addition to several airbags, the EQE SUV will include a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, and a slew of driver assistance features such as lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and parking assist.

The EQE comes into India via the CBU route and will sit in between the EQS sedans and the EQB in the brand's electric portfolio. It will rival the recently launched Audi Q8 e-tron, the very popular BMW iX and the Jaguar I-Pace which happens to be the oldest of the the lot.
