Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift launch on 2 Nov: What to expect?

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the new GLE facelift in India on November 2, 2023, alongside the C 43 4Matic. This mid-cycle facelift brings several updates to the GLE, including design enhancements, additional features, slight interior tweaks, and the introduction of a new mild-hybrid diesel engine, along with a plug-in hybrid version known as the 400e 4Matic. Here's what you can expect from the upcoming GLE facelift.

New Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift: Design and Interior

The GLE has not undergone any drastic design changes but instead features subtle updates. It showcases a new headlamp design and updated daytime driving lights, inspired by the recently refreshed GLC. The daytime running lights consist of flare-style light elements connected by two light points (four points with optional multibeam LED headlamps). The taillight cluster has also been updated, with the GLE boasting two horizontal blocks, while the GLE Coupe features two bars. Both models sport newly designed grilles and front and rear bumpers. Notably, the GLE Coupe now includes the AMG Line exterior package as standard.

The interior highlights include a new steering wheel with touch-capacitive controls, fresh upholstery options, and air-con vents made from galvanised metal, similar to the Maybach GLS. The refreshed duo now offers new colour options such as Catalana Beige/Black (exclusive to the GLE) and Bahia Brown/Black. It features an exclusive dual-tone Black and Classic Red combination that complements its sporty AMG Line package. Additionally, both models have incorporated the 'Manufaktur Piano Lacquer Black Flowing Lines' trim from the Maybach GLS. The 13-speaker, 590-watt Burmester surround sound system now offers two new features: personal sound setup and Dolby Atmos. Optional extras include two 100W USB ports in the rear armrest and energising air control.

In contrast to the split-screen setup on newer models like the C-Class, GLC, and S-Class, the GLE and GLE Coupe retain the same single-piece panel system found in the previous model, featuring two 12.3-inch displays. However, Mercedes has updated it with the latest MBUX iteration, introducing wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto users. The system also includes MBUX Smart Home Function, enabling users to ask questions about their homes, such as "Hey Mercedes, is there anybody in my home right now?"

New Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift: Trims and Powertrains

All trims of the new GLE and GLE Coupe now feature electrification, thanks to the 48-volt mild-hybrid system and integrated starter generator available in their diesel versions. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz has equipped these models with fourth-generation plug-in hybrid technology, offering an electric-only driving range of up to 109km, supported by an 11kW charger (with an optional 60kW DC fast charger).

Trim options for the European market include 450 4Matic, 300d 4Matic, 450d 4Matic, 350de 4Matic, and a new 400e 4Matic.

New Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift: Pricing

The new prices of the GLE facelift could range between Rs 95ax lakh and Rs 1.15 crore. We also expect Mercedes-Benz India to launch the new GLE 53 4Matic+ and GLE 63 S 4Matic+ in India.

New Mercedes-AMG 53 and 63 S

The AMG models feature the AMG logo on the bonnet instead of the Mercedes-Benz emblem, a change applicable to all future AMG models. Key highlights of the AMG versions include 22-inch forged alloy wheels for the GLE 63 S Coupe, an AMG performance exhaust system, a Burmester sound system, a memory package, a 360-degree camera, keyless entry, and blind-spot assist as standard equipment for the 53. The 53 Coupe now includes temperature-controlled front seats, MBUX AR function, and multibeam LED headlamps as standard.

The 63 S model, in addition to an air balance package, multi-contour front seats, and a heads-up display, benefits from the MBUX interior assistant, temperature-controlled cup holders, and AMG logo projectors in the front doors.

The Mercedes-AMG 53 4Matic+ is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol engine producing 435PS and 560Nm of torque, an increase of 40Nm compared with the previous model. The top-of-the-line 63 S comes with the same V8 twin-scroll turbo-petrol engine, generating 612PS and 850Nm of torque. Both engines feature a 48-volt mild hybrid assist and an integrated starter generator, providing a short power boost of 22PS and 200PS (250PS in the 63 S).
