Kia EV5 showcased and will sit below the EV6

Kia has unveiled a brand-new electric SUV concept and the car will be called the Kia EV5. It will make its debut in the Chinese market. The EV5, as its name implies, will sit below the EV6 and the recently disclosed production-spec EV9.

The EV5's production model is most likely to be built on a variant of the E-GMP platform, which also supports the two custom Kia EVs now on the market and the other four that will be released before 2026.

Its upright front end has a closed-off grille, similar to the EV9, and aggressively sculpted headlights with the automaker's Digital Tiger Face LED DRL logo. If you look closely, you can see small DRLs that merge into the bodywork - a feature Kia likes to refer to as Signature Light Map technology.

The SUV has a great, boxy appearance from the side, with huge, squared-off wheel arches containing 21-inch alloy wheels. The side profile is dominated by sharp creases and lines that provide character, and the black trim on the C-pillar gives the roof a floating appearance.

Compared to the EV9, the back profile is slightly different. The LED taillights of the EV5 are low-set and taper toward the centre of the boot. A sizable skid plate is added to the bumper, and a projecting spoiler finishes the design.

The EV5's interior has a minimalist design aesthetic. The digital instrument cluster, which combines the binnacle with a large touchscreen infotainment system, is controlled via the square steering wheel. The centre console, however, is not secured to the dashboard. The battery pack beneath the floor then makes the surface level.

The EV5 lacks a B-pillar and features doors that swing open from the back. The full-length panoramic sunroof, which also functions as a solar panel to create the ideal ambience, and the use of recycled materials for the seats, doors, and headliners in the interior put a focus on sustainability.
