Hyundai Ioniq 5 achieves 1,000 unit sales milestone in India

The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been in India roughly a year since its launch at the 2023 Auto Expo this January and it had already achieved a significant 1,000 unit sales milestone. The EV reached the 500 unit sales mark in July this year. Notably, it received over 650 reservations within two months of its commencement of bookings in December 2022. Based on the EV-only E-GMP platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is being assembled in the country, offering it an advantage of lower pricing over its rivals. Speaking of which, the EV costs Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Powertrain

Powering the Ioniq 5 is a 72.6kWh battery paired with a rear-axle mounted single motor that generates 217PS and 350Nm of torque. Above all, it returns an ARAI-certified range of 631km on a full charge. With its 800V architecture, the Ioniq 5 can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 18 minutes, provided there is a 350kW DC charger. Further, a 150kW DC fast charger can charge it to 80 per cent from zero in just 21 minutes, whereas, a 50kW charger takes about an hour.

Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 in India with a choice of three colours: Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl. Moreover, it is equipped with a vehicle-to-load functionality, which can charge electronic appliances at 3.6kW. Customers can use two ports to recharge their electronic gadgets - one is located outside, while another under the rear seat.

Other features include a 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone temperature control, powered front seat with lumbar support and relaxation function, powered rear seats, Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, 360deg camera, panoramic sunroof, Bluelink connected car tech, Level 2 autonomy, six airbags, TPMS, and ESC, among others.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Rivals

While the Kia EV6 (priced between Rs 60.95 and Rs 65.95, ex-showroom) is the direct rival of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Its other closest competitors are the BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and MINI Cooper SE.
